NOLA...NO WAY!

When it was announced Michigan would be playing in the Sugar Bowl in New Orleans, Ed jokingly said, "we should go". What started as a joke, hesitantly turned into...

"well, maybe we could"

"no, it's too expensive"

"what would we do with EV?"

"yeah, that would be tough"

"maybe my parents could watch her"

"no, that's too long"

"but they have been saying they want more time with her"

"seriously, too expensive"

"what if it was our one major purchase of the year"

"that's nice thinking but nothing says we have to have a major purchase of the year, we should save the money"

"I could use the time away with you, I will be traveling a lot coming up"

"it would be fun"

"no, we can't go...can we?"

"let's check it out, price-wise"

"whoa, hotel rooms are expensive"

"I found a really inexpensive one but that doesn't seem very fun"

"if we're going to dream up this trip to New Orleans, let's at least dream big"

"I found a great bed and breakfast, rated 5 stars, Terrell House, rooms are expensive but it looks amazing"

"how much are tickets to the game?"

"that's doable"

"call your parents, can they even take her?"

"they said they would love to and they offered to pay for the tickets"

"I think we could actually do this"

"Ok, this is crazy, I'm buying the tickets and booking the room"

"AAAHHHH, room booked, eeek!"

"we're going to New Orleans!!!" 

The time away was relaxing (seriously, my blood pressure went way down!) and important for our marriage.  I love being a mom to EV but with work stress and my need to tackle all of life's questions every single night, preferably 3 minutes after Ed has dozed off, we needed a vacation.  A vacation where we could do whatever we want, whenever we want.  We could walk around all day or just stay in bed and watch TV, nowhere to be, no responsibilities.

Fun note: I could not say we were playing in the Sugar Bowl at the Superdome.  It always turned into we're playing in the Super Bowl at the Silverdome, or Silver Bowl at the Sugardome, or some take on that.  Made for a good running joke for the trip.
