You know those lights I was talking about doing? Since I cleaned the house on Friday for Caitlin to baby sit EV, I was left with nothing (well, I'm sure there was more cleaning to do) to occupy my time on Sunday night. I have a great book but with the weather so nice I wanted to do something outside! I put little EV into bed and decided it was a great night to try my first hand at those baby lights.
I went out onto our porch, which my little friend here reminded me I hadn't done in about a year (there are hornets living in the railing).
I found my bike though! I didn't know where that had gone. That SUPER dead pine tree is from 2 years ago. Ed and I went on our honeymoon to St. Lucia and we left on Christmas day. That meant we never put up decorations since we were so busy getting married, packing for the trip, and then actually enjoying the trip. I was super bummed this would be my first year without a Christmas tree. Sweet husband of mine bought a tree and thought we would one day plant it. Needless to say, neither one of us has a green thumb.
Ok, step 1. Jars. I have PLENTY of those! Baby jars add up every day and we have a case of Ball jars in the garage since I use them as drinking glasses.
I got my supplies out. I had to go buy them all. First up, Mod Podge. I really don't know what this is or how to use it (which will be clear later). Then we have my paint brush, clear coat sealer spray paint and food coloring.
A little of the Mod Podge goes A LONG WAY and the same with the food coloring. I used too much. I paint the first jar and I think that will turn out just fine.
The Ball jar is another story. I knew I had to do thin coats but with all the writing on the jar it got messed up. I'll try again but I don't think it's going to turn out. There are a lot of brush strokes which isn't ideal for this project.
Claudius lives in our basement and he was curious what I was up to. He suggested painting designs into the jars. I figured if I couldn't paint straight lines, I might not try my hand at designs.
Anyways, they're drying right now and I'll seal them if they look ok. I have a lot of room for error when it comes to the baby jar lights but the Ball jar is different.
This was hysterical. I can't wait to see how they turn out.
