Last weekend, EV found her feet! Previously she had been sitting up and could reach and play with her toes. I'm not sure if she realized the toes were hers or not but she liked playing with them. While I was gone on a softball trip (I have a feeling I'll be saying this a lot in her lifetime) she found her feet while she was lying down. Now she grabs them and pulls them to her face. She can't quite get them in her mouth but she's awful close!
Another fun (maybe not fun?) thing she does is this high pitch yell. It's pretty cute and I think it's her way to tell us she's hungry. Sometimes she gets mad and the yell gets louder. It doesn't even look like she's yelling though. She opens her mouth just a little bit and this sound comes out. Then she'll move her mouth to make variations on the noise. We think it's her way of talking. She doesn't babble or say ba-ba-ba-ba but she can shriek.
Her favorite toy right now is the pineapple man she got from her great aunt Chris. It is shaped like a coconut but looks like a pineapple, with hard plastic hands, soft feet, and a core than vibrates when you pull it. She loves this thing. I think it's her boyfriend! She also likes looking in the mirror a lot, watching herself eat pineapple man's hand.
Lately when I have tried to feed her she has gotten into the habit of arching her back and making a frustrated face. The back arching is new for her. I don't know if she's telling me she prefers a bottle or if she's full. I can't find a good position to feed her in where she won't do it. So for now I feed her what I can, before she puts the kabosh on it then I put her down to play. When she starts making her shrieking noise (like right now) I'll try to feed her again. Since I'm gone so much I want to feed her as often as I can when I'm home. Not only will she get the "Momma Juice" but I really like the bonding time with her.
Oh, I almost forgot! We tried rice cereal on Tuesday after practice. At first she made a terrible face but then she actually got in the habit of eating it off the spoon. We barely had any in the bowl, it was mainly my milk, but we made it through. I don't think I fully comprehended how messy real food is going to be. I think I'll need to put a trash bag down every time I feed her! We haven't tried it again because that night she did not sleep well at all so we're giving it a few days then Ed will probably try some in the morning this weekend. I was opposed for a while about starting her on rice cereal but once I figured out the only hesitation I truly had was because she was growing up, I gave in and now I'm glad we're starting early and taking it slow.
Ok, the shrieking has gotten louder and she's beating up pineapple man. I don't approve of violence in any relationship so I better go save her boyfriend and put some food in her belly!
i'm going to avoid the obvious comment regarding EV's vibrating "boyfriend", since it seems inappropriate for a site dedicated to a 4 month old. instead, i'll let you know that my numerous baby sitting experiences with my psuedo nephews tell me that you're right about the messiness of real food. my aunt would recommend a naked baby (only in a diaper) that you clean with a rag over the sink afterwards. and certainly, never do feeding over carpet.
