So this is what I might try:
Found this picture on Pinterest (my new favorite time wasting technique)
And I'm really into this chevron pattern in the background. I'm not sure if it's the colors, sharp angles, contrast...haven't pinpointed it yet but I'm digging it. It seems like it's on a canvas which the only way I could figure out how to do this was to buy a canvas at JoAnns (I do have a 40% off coupon), spray paint, sealant, painters tape. I actually found another blog post here which did the same project and added a letter.
I'm not in love with the dimensions though, I like the equal sized lines of the first picture.
But I don't want this to be just a canvas. I'm in need of a cork board in our bedroom, and in my school office actually, but I don't really like the color of cork. Ed makes fun of me because I don't like wood to be the color of wood, which he really means I don't like the color of oak or medium colored stains. You need to make it super light or dark cherry for me to like wood. Anyways, off topic...back to the actual cork.
I am not alone in my quest to liven up cork boards. Apparently TLC is on board with me (head over here for more ideas such as wrapping paper and fabric - I may try the fabric if my painting fails, I have a sample piece of curtain fabric from 2 years ago when I thought I was going to make curtains...never did). The idea is the same as canvas, however I could use a foam brush and a couple coats of paint since the cork will absorb a good amount. I figure those tiny cans of paint from Lowe's are $5 (I would need 2), a pack of foam brushes which cost very little and last but not least, a cork board. I have no idea what they run but remember, JoAnn coupon! Woohoo. If I ever get around to this project, I'll post about it. Maybe even do a tutorial like the E chevron couple.
They did inspire me to start thinking of decorating our living room with the letter K framed and painted in neat ways, but I get the feeling too many K's in a row is distasteful, not artsy.
Anyone ever decorated a cork board??? Got any tips?
