I love my family, in-laws and all. For EV's first memorial day we took a little trip over to Grosse Pointe Farms to hang out with Grandpa John. There is a fantastic park with a pool right on the water that is within walking distance of his house. Since it is an east coast of a lake (sadly I cannot even think of what Great Lake is over there...I'll look it up...HA, it isn't even a Great Lake, it's Lake St. Clair) it isn't as nice as a west coast of the lake. In St. Joe we have the west side of Lake Michigan (my favorite of ALL lakes) and Chicago has the east coast. As long as I remember we haven't had the beach shut down due to something like e-coli but I know Chicago has. Anyways, this lake's beach was shutdown due to e-colie. That's fine (gross, but fine) we stayed in the pool.

EV has only been in the pool once before and there were only a few other people there. This pool was crowded! The main pool was literally packed like sardines (or pickles if you will) but the kiddy pools were less busy. She wore her scandalous suit she received from the softball girls; scandalous just because I would NOT let an older version of her wear this suit until she was able to afford it herself. After a layer...or three...of her high powered sunscreen, since I am raising baby Powder, we were off!

Playing pat a cake with Granny |
She loved this pool. She was fine sitting in it, lying backwards in it, standing, and even when I would put her belly down above the water to pretend she was swimming she would put her face in the water. I thought she would cry or spit or cough after the first time but she kept doing it. I didn't care how disgusting the water must have been, she was loving it. Afterwards we went out on Grandpa John's boat which meant her very first time on a boat and very first time wearing a life jacket. Ed had done a test run in our living room with the new jacket and she HATED it. Well, nothing really changed on the boat. She doesn't like the jacket because it hits her face weird. She got used to it. So used to it she passed out on the boat and I got to cuddle with her the entire time. I made sure she had a beach towel covering every inch of her skin since like I said before, my child is Casper, and she's a baby! Protect baby skin!

After such a long day of water, wind and sun we headed back where she played with her Great Granny. I couldn't believe the child was still upright and active. Always the life of the party. Eventually we came home, fed her some squash, gave her a bath to wipe off the thick white layer of sunscreen, and plopped her little behind in bed.

I feel so lucky to be able to share these moments with Ed. Our lives are on the edge of a possible major change so it was great to take some time and not worry about what is to come. Instead we just enjoyed the day, family, and our little ray of sunshine.
