Anyways, my ridiculously hard semester ended today! I turned in my 16 page paper and now I get 2 weeks off! I just want to spend time with EV and Ed.
Speaking of EV, she has recently started to put herself to sleep. Before I would always have to feed her to go to sleep and then wait until she finally nodded off to put her in the crib. I went to San Diego for a work convention this past week and my mom came in to take care of EV. Ed's mom also helped out. Mom didn't know any different so she would put her in the crib and turn on her mobile. Funny how I got stuck in the routine of always feeding her before bed and didn't think about the mobile or anything. The mobile just ran out of batteries but she still seems to be fine going to sleep on her own. She'll just make "baby laser" noises, kick and sometimes yell, but eventually she loses and falls asleep.
She also started laughing. Mom said she heard her laugh while I was gone and although Ed did his best to convince me it was only baby lasers (I felt really bad about missing her first laugh) I'm pretty sure she did laugh. I flew back on the 14th of December and I heard her laugh on the 16th. I haven't been able to get her to do it again though. Well once but it wasn't a laughing-fest like the first time. I was blowing kisses into her neck when she laughed the first time. And she LOVED it! Now when I do it she just smiles but maybe I'll remember how I was so funny last time.
On Saturday the house went from 0 to Christmas in no time flat! We had zero decorations up and now we have a tree with lights and ornaments, stockings hung, the nativity that my aunt gave me last year, lights outside (I think there is a rule against having lights on your condo in our subdivision though since we're the only ones...oh well), lights around some of the windows, random decorations, a wreath on the door, etc. I wanted to go all out since last year we were in St. Lucia to celebrate Christmas. Don't get me wrong it was AMAZING, but I missed the tradition of Christmas. Now I'm glad Ed and I can create new traditions since my family doesn't have anymore with Mom not choosing to celebrate Christmas.
I got EV two little presents and I combined Ed's anniversary present with his Christmas one but gave it to him early since he needs it for work. I got him a base layer from Patagonia to keep him warm while he's driving the bus. I'm not sure if it works better than the stuff her had but he tells me it does. I might pick up something for him, not sure what yet, just so he has something from me to open.
I have been waiting to post this next picture because it is the picture on our Christmas cards that I just sent out today (I know, a little late). But I'm just dying to get it out into the world because it is sooooo perfect. It's EV's first Christmas and we're going to spend it in Ann Arbor, just me, Ed, and EV. We found a church we're going to attend on Christmas Eve and I'm going to try to continue some of Ed's traditions. Apparently they make coffee cake and have hot cocoa on Christmas. I can't really remember a ton of traditions we had. I remember Dad making a big breakfast and then in later years we always had a West Wing marathon (or at least I did) because for a stretch I got a new DVD set each year. I think this year we'll try to the coffee cake and hot cocoa, big breakfast, and maybe watch a Christmas movie or two. I'm thinking It's a Wonderful Life and White Christmas (my favorite).
Oh, the photo...here it is, my perfect little angel in her Christmas hat!
