Martha Stewart, I am not. But maybe I could pass for her less talented third cousin, twice-removed? Ok, probably not that either. My jars FAILED. They didn't turn out well. Here's a picture of what this project is not supposed to look like:
See all the brush strokes on the Ball jar? Those aren't supposed to be there. And don't try to fix them once they've started to dry:
I see now why the sealer is needed. This stuff just rubs right off. Since I was so successful the first time with this I decided I would take a night off. But once again the weather was amazing so I tried again. This time with pink instead of neon blue. I discovered the trick was to water down the Mod Podge and only go over the area once. The problem with the original Ball jar was I tried to go over areas to "fix" them and the Mod Podge had already dried. I painted some baby jars too, all with different amounts of paint. I mixed a little blue, not neon blue, in another cup and painted another big jar. These turned out well enough to be sealed.
Before I sprayed the sealer I took off my new glasses, new as in TODAY new. I was just going to leave them on the porch, thought better of it, then put them inside and shut the sliding glass door. Now I was sealing jars on the porch, blind, with diminishing sunlight. Even with these things stacked against me I thought I should be fine. I had forgotten about the hornets who live on my porch and who probably don't appreciate spray paint. I saw a few flying around but luckily I escaped unharmed. I did however trip on the blinds cord when I came inside. That made a loud enough crash I thought for sure baby buns was going to scream and the neighbors would come knocking on my door to see if I was alright. Well, I must have a deaf baby and heartless neighbors because no one noticed.
Pictures will come but after they're dry. I didn't have enough light to capture the colors of the jar.
